The suspects ran from the officers, which is when one fired a gun, Giacobbe said. The bullet hit a Perth Amboy police officer in the leg.

The police officer was shot three times, according to the New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association.

He was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. The injuries were non-life-threatening, according to Giacobbe.

“His fellow detectives took quick actions to save his life. We are thankful for the outpouring of support. The detective is in stable condition,” the New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association wrote on X .
