    Raleigh County Commission approves sheriff’s department grant for body armor

    BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Members of the Raleigh County Commission assembled on Tuesday for the Regular Session meeting of the commission at which a grant to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office for body armor was up for consideration.

    The funds – issued through a Homeland Security grant – would total at $22,435.25 and would be utilized for the procurement of body armor for officers.

    The grant, presented for consideration roughly a third of the way through the session, was approved by commission members.

    Several in-house budget revisions were also presented for consideration during the session. Among those were one revision to the budget of the commission itself. This entailed the moving of $500 from the Materials & Supplies line item to the Contracts & Services line item.

    $500 was also proposed for transfer from Group Insurance to Salaries & Wages for code inspection, along with a final revision for the sheriff’s law enforcement line, which entails the moving of $55,548 from Overtime to Materials & Supplies.

    These in-house budget revisions saw approval from members of the commission during Tuesday’s meeting.

    Also approved during the session were two grant considerations pertaining to the Sophia Little League organization. These included a grant request in the amount of $7679.52 for lawn mowing equipment. This would be used to replace decades-old equipment with which the organization had be operating.

    A second grant consideration was presented for funds in the amount of $3,000 which, according to Raleigh County Administrator Jay Quesenberry, would go toward the Sophia Little League All Star Team to allow them to participate in the Junior League State Tournament.
