Sweetgreen is opening its first Triangle location in Raleigh.

Why it matters: The popular salad chain has been on an expansion spree since going public in 2021.

    • The company has said it'll open its first North Carolina shop in Uptown Charlotte this summer .

What's happening: Sweetgreen, which has grown to more than 200 restaurants in recent years, will open in North Hills at 4158 Main at North Hills St., according to Kane Realty.

    • The fast-casual chain will open in the former Pieology Pizzeria space at a yet-to-be announced date.

Context: Sweetgreen — which first gained a devoted following among office workers in cities like New York and Washington, D.C. — is known for its creative salads and bowls.

    • The restaurant, founded in 2007, helped popularize a trend of the fast-casual salad, a space that now includes competitors like Chopt and Just Salad.
