    How to celebrate Juneteenth in the Triangle this weekend

    Juneteenth is just five days away, and this weekend will be packed with events to celebrate.

    • The June 19 holiday commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas learned they'd been freed.

    🎢 Listen to music, play yard games and grab lunch from food trucks at J ohn Chavis Memorial Park on Friday from 11am to 1pm.

    🌳 Bring your lawn chairs and blankets to take in an afternoon of entertainment and food at the Capital City Juneteenth Celebration 2024 on Saturday at Harvey Hill at Dix Park in Raleigh starting at noon.

    🎨 Head to Pittsboro on Saturday for the town's annual Juneteenth Black Arts Festival .

    πŸ› Downtown Cary Park will host its own Juneteenth event on Saturday, featuring live music and food trucks.

    πŸ₯ N.C. Central University will be the site of the N.C. Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday with live music and a fashion show.

    πŸŽ₯ The N.C. Museum of Art will host a screening of "The Color Purple" on Saturday. There's be live house music, too.

    🚎 Hop on Raleigh's Black History Trolley Tour on Saturday.

    • Tours run every hour between 11am and 2pm.

    πŸ’» Code the Dream hosts Synthesize on Tuesday at the American Underground in Durham, an interactive exploration of technology and Black culture.

    🍹 Sip on cocktails at the Black-owned Missy Lane's Assembly Room , featuring Black-owned spirits and Black history-inspired cocktails.
