Stellar Tuesday ahead, muggy and hot Wednesday soon to follow

Tuesday is a chilly start with southeasterly winds but clear skies for a beautiful sunrise. Temps will warm up much faster than Monday as we push into the 70s by midday, low 80s by the afternoon for our western counties. With easterly winds, those east of I-77 will struggle a bit, especially on the mountain tops themselves into the mid to upper 70s. Tuesday evening is calm & clear with lows dipping back into the upper 50s and low 60s.

Wednesday the heat and humidity of July are back as we warm up quickly into 80s by mid-day and upper 80s by the afternoon. Winds more southerly help most of our mountain valley towns push the 80 degree mark. Higher humidity will start to play a part making the afternoon feel a touch warmer but not overly oppressive.

Wednesday evening, clouds increase with an isolated shower possible late into the night. A warm front is expected to lift just west of our region for a shower or two pre-dawn into Thursday.

Independence Day is the day Mother Nature has decided to listen to our pleas for rain. A few clouds filter in for the morning but we look to stay relatively dry for morning parades and festivities. By midday, with highs in the upper 80s, heat and humidity with an approaching front spark a few showers and even a rumble of thunder.

Our cold front is expected to cross in the evening with scattered thunderstorms and heavy rain lasting into the overnight. The scattered nature of these storms suggests some towns may get their firework displays off without issue but others may not. About 1 inch of rain in a few places will go a long way to help with the on-going drought conditions.

Friday morning showers and a rumble or two continue to filter out from Thursday’s system but another looks to push in for the afternoon. Some dry time helps temps push into the upper 80s with very humid air in place for that summer feel. Scattered showers and pop-up t-storms likely into the afternoon. A few will escape the rain but it’ll be a good day to keep an eye to the sky for those without door plans.

Saturday a few morning showers likely as our Friday system continues to push out of the region. Highs take a small hit dropping back into the low to mid 80s but it’ll be muggy regardless. Afternoon rumbles likely in a scattered fashion again making Saturday a good day to keep an hear out for thunder. We’ll clear up some into the overnight.

Sunday is a little drier over Saturday with a mix of sun and clouds. Temps manage to push the mid and upper 80s with extra humidity. By the early evening a pop-up downpour and isolated thunderstorm are possible here or there.

In Your Extended Forecast we look to get in on a soggier run which will be very beneficial for the on-going drought conditions. While any rain is good, the best to help with drought is a long duration, slow building event which doesn’t look to be the case with the scattered nature of showers and storms well into next week.
