    16 NC collegiate athletes make Team USA, head to Paris

    RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — More than a dozen North Carolina collegiate athletes will head to Paris as part of Team USA.

    According to the NCAA, 75% of this year’s Team USA athletes will have competed collegiately as part of their journey to the games. In total, 151 NCAA schools from 45 conferences will have one or more U.S. Olympians competing in Paris.

    NC’s Special Olympics summer games kick off with opening ceremony in Raleigh

    Collegiate athletes from Duke University, NC State, UNC-Chapel Hill, and Wake Forest University have made the roster for the Paris Games. Those athletes will compete in basketball, diving, field hockey, rugby, soccer, swimming, triathlon, and track and field.

    UNC-Chapel Hill alumni make up the largest portion of those athletes.
