NC State holds a commitment from one top-10 prospect in North Carolina— four-star wide receiver Jerel Bolder . The Wolfpack is making a push with two of the state’s elite prospects right now, trying to bolster its No. 42-ranked class.

Four-star safety Jordan Young out of Monroe (N.C.) High and four-star wide receiver Shamarius Peterkin from Winston-Salem (N.C.) Mount Tabor High are both strongly considering NC State as they reach the ends of their respective decision-making processes.

TheWolfpacker.com hit the road this week to speak with both elite prospects, and they explained why they think highly of the Pack.

    Four-star safety Jordan Young

NC State was the first school to offer Young around two years ago, and that’s holding some weight with the nation’s No. 119 recruit going into the home stretch of his recruitment. The Pack is also the only program that offered him opportunities to play on both sides of the ball, which helped catapult the in-state program to the top of his list.

Young will return to campus Friday for the Alpha Wolf Showcase, and he wants to spend the day learning about everything off the field. He already likes the coaching staff and the Pack’s plan for him if he picked NC State. Now, he wants to take a closer look at the dorms, the business school and campus in general. Young shared that former Pack quarterback Jalan McClendon has reached out to him to help recruit him to Raleigh.

The elite safety, considered the No. 4 recruit in North Carolina, chose to visit NC State instead of Clemson Friday. Both schools are doing a good job in his recruitment right now, and he wants to use this trip to Raleigh to compare the programs. Michigan and Florida State also made his top four, and Young said he believes his recruitment is about even between those nationally ranked squads.

His visit schedule does not end this week. Young will spend July 26 with NC State and also hopes to take game day visits in the fall. The Wolfpack’s games against Tennessee and Western Carolina, Clemson’s showdown with Georgia and Florida State’s matchup with California are all on his travel schedule. Young’s commitment remains scheduled for October 12.

    Four-star wide receiver Shamarius Peterkin

Peterkin answered all of the NC State-related questions he needed to during his June 21-23 official visit. His recruitment remains narrowed down to three schools— the Wolfpack, UNC and Virginia Tech— with his commitment scheduled for Aug. 16.

Based on TheWolfpacker.com’s conversation with the No. 7 recruit in the state and additional intel behind the scenes, NC State appears to have the edge here, but do not count Virginia Tech out of this race. He has grown quite close with the Hokies’ staff, and the Wolfpack’s ACC foe looks like a legitimate contender.

The four-star receiver is also a standout basketball player, and he called UNC his dream school this week— a phrase he has used to describe the Tar Heels throughout his recruitment. Based on everything TheWolfpacker.com has heard, that infatuation seems to have more to do with North Carolina hoops than the gridiron.

Going into the final few weeks before his decision, I’d still project Peterkin to NC State, but I’m holding off on an RPM pick for now. He’s considering trips to Raleigh and Virginia Tech this weekend and could see both schools as their events are scheduled on separate days. It’s also possible that he will not take any visits this weekend. Peterkin’s family loves everything about NC State, so expect that to play a role in his decision as well.
