Caden Gordon committed to NC State football June 12. He was one of the first members of the defensive back class, and he continues to think highly of the program after returning for the Alpha Wolf Showcase last week.

The three-star rising senior cornerback from Lake Worth (Fla.) Santaluces High picked the Pack over offers from Georgia Tech, Florida State, UCF and others. Illinois, USF, the Yellow Jackets, and the Seminoles also made his top five— a list Gordon released right before his trip to NC State began.

He officially visited June 7-9, and he was ready to call Raleigh home shortly after that. Gordon made the decision the Monday after his weekend with the Wolfpack.

“It was pretty overwhelming thinking about everything, all the schools that was coming at me,  giving me phone calls every day,” Gordon said. “But after I came here, and I learned new things about doing them, it was kind of cool, and I knew this was home.”

NC State cornerbacks coach Brian Mitchell is his primary recruiter, and the staff offered the 6-1, 170-pound prospect in January. When the defensive back reached his decision, he called the Wolfpack assistant.

Mitchell told Gordon to talk to Dave Doeren first, so he talked to the head coach and has been locked in with the program ever since. He will enroll early after graduating from Santaluces in December.

“It feels good,” Gordon said. “I’ve got a home. Now I don’t got to worry about losing a spot or whatnot. I’m already established at a place, so I’ve just gotta be ready to come in in January and work.”

On3 considers Gordon the No. 54 cornerback in the country and the No. 62 prospect in Florida. He recorded 16 total tackles last fall, including 14 solo stops, to go along with 1 interception during his first season in the secondary.

The Wolfpack commit will play both sides of the ball again this year, and he has lofty goals for his final stretch of high school competition.

“I’m going for a touchdown a game at receiver, and then hopefully a pick every game if they try me,” Gordon said.

When he takes the field this fall, he will do so alongside three-star NC State wide receiver commit Jamar Browder . He’s looking forward to teaming up with his close friend at the next level. They visited together in June and both quickly joined the Pack.

“It’s going to be very fun to have a homeboy that I’ve played with already and grew up with since third grade,” Gordon said. “We’ll be at the same school. It’s going to be amazing, a good experience. We might be in the same dorms.”

Gordon and Browder kick off their senior seasons against Boynton Beach (Fla.) Somerset Academy Aug. 23.
