A mountain lion cub hit by a car late last year has been released back into the wild in Ventura County, California, after spending seven months in rehabilitation at the San Diego Humane Society’s Ramona campus.

The society told Storyful the then five-month-old male was brought to them on Thanksgiving, and was treated for a hind-leg tibia fracture, as well as dehydration and malnourishment.

For several weeks, it was monitored via cameras at an indoor hospital enclosure with limited human interaction. It was then moved to an outdoor enclosure for “continued rehabilitation”.

The cub was released by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife on Wednesday, June 26.

It was outfitted with a satellite GPS collar before release, to “help ensure his future health and wellbeing.”
