An urgent call from the Ramsey County Attorney for more gun safety after more shooting deaths around the state.

In 2024 almost 90% of all domestic related deaths in Minnesota involved firearms. Of those deaths, the youngest victim was just 8-years old when killed by a gun in Burnsville two weeks ago.

Ramsey County Attorney John Choi says it's more important than ever before for state leaders to address gun safety and make it harder for guns to get into the wrong hands.

"A big part of the solution is actually getting our elected officials who represent us in Washington D.C. to recognize that the vast majority of the public wants reasonable, safe regulation," Choi says.

The Ramsey County Attorney's Office will be providing the public with free gun locks Choi says that only though continued partnership with the community will this problem get solved.

"It is too often that is the case where easy access to guns, guns that are not safely stored or secured, have resulted in tragic situations," says Choi.
