(FOX40.COM) — A search is underway for a teenage boy after he went missing at the American River in Sacramento County.

Sacramento Metro Fire said it received a water rescue call near Clay Banks, also known as the El Manto River Access point, in Rancho Cordova at 2:44 p.m. on Tuesday.

When crews arrived, they rescued a 25-year-old man and brought him onto shore, but were unable to locate the teenager.

Metro Fire told FOX40.com that both the man and teen were swimming in the river when they swept under the water.

The man who was rescued was transported to the hospital by a helicopter, officials said.

Park rangers, members of Sacramento Drowning Accident Rescue Team (DART), and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Officers are assisting in the search.
