Man gives brother’s name after being found asleep at gas pump, arrested on multiple charges

ELKINS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One man has been arrested after giving his brother’s name to police and using his ex-girlfriend’s driver’s license when stopped by police.

According to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO), on Tuesday, July 24, 2024, at approximately 9:48 AM, Deputy J. Wolfe of the RCSO discovered a man asleep in his car at a gas pump at the Wal-Mart fuel station.

The vehicle, a grey Hyundai, had a cracked windshield and a West Virginia State Inspection sticker that appeared tampered with.

Upon investigation, Deputy Wolfe identified the man as Mitchell Allen Williams, who initially claimed to be Nathaniel Williams.

Suspicious of the false identity, Deputy Wolfe requested confirmation from Randolph County 911 Center, which revealed that Nathaniel Williams’ driver’s license described a person with blue eyes, while Mitchell had hazel eyes.

Further questioning and the arrival of a friend, who could not confirm the fake identity, led to the discovery of a driver’s license with the name Jeremy Wayne Tacy Jr. and a debit card bearing the name Mitchell Williams in the vehicle.

Eventually, Mitchell Allen Williams admitted his real identity and provided a correct date of birth.

The 911 Center confirmed that Williams had active warrants for multiple charges, including battery, petit larceny, improper registration, no MVI, and fleeing on foot and in a vehicle.

Williams admitted to using his brother’s name and the Tacy driver’s license, which belonged to an ex-partner.

He was arrested and transported to Randolph County Magistrate Court for arraignment on charges of obstruction for providing false information.

Williams was subsequently taken to Tygart Valley Regional Jail.

He is currently at Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $8,500 bond.
