A grand jury has indicted an incarcerated Akron man in the fatal January overdose of a Ravenna man .

Gene Arnall Hill, 42, is charged with involuntary manslaughter; corrupting another with drugs; and trafficking in a fentanyl-related compound. The indictment was filed Tuesday in Portage County Court of Common Pleas.

Ravenna police said they responded Jan. 19 to the Ravenna Avenue home of 31-year-old Tyrece D. Luttrell after family members reported he was overdosing. Officers found Luttrell lying on his back, apparently not breathing but with a slight pulse.

After three doses of Narcan had no apparent effect on Luttrell, officers did chest compressions until EMS arrived a short time later and took over.

Lutrell was taken to University Hospitals Portage Medical Center, where he later died. The Portage County Coroner's Office said the cause was ruled "fentanyl toxicity."

During an investigation, police said they learned Lutrell had a history of drug addiction, especially heroin, but was employed and in rehab. Family told police he had not used addictive substances in seven months. Lutrell's girlfriend told police Lutrell had given her a great deal of support in her own struggles to overcome an addiction to meth.

According to a Ravenna police report, investigators examined Lutrell's phone after obtaining a warrant. The report does not specify what was found, but the examination concluded Feb. 21, the same day an involuntary manslaughter charge was filed against Hill in Portage County Municipal Court in Ravenna and a warrant issued for his arrest.

At the time, Hill was incarcerated in Summit County Jail, according to a current inmate roster.

Hill pleaded guilty in April in Summit County Common Pleas Court to two counts each of operating a vehicle under the influence and non-support of dependents.

Hill was sentenced to 240 days in prison, with credit for time already served. According to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, Hill is currently incarcerated in the Lake Erie Correctional Institution in Ashtabula County, with an expected release date of Aug. 23.

A warrant was issued Tuesday for Hill's arrest in the Portage County case, according to court records.
