HINDS COUNTY, Miss. ( WJTV ) – A transformer issue caused a brief power outage at the Hinds County Detention Center in Raymond.

According to Othor Cain, the communications director for the Hinds County Board of Supervisors, the issue occurred after the transformer stopped working on Friday, July 5. He said the building generator came on, and the maintenance team contacted Entergy to report the outage.

They also contacted Taylor Power to make sure they had another backup generator for the facility, according to Cain.

“The facility is being cooled by using the generator, fans, and other resources. Hinds County has worked with Entergy to purchase a new transformer that will be installed by using contractual services as soon as possible,” Cain stated.

During the outage, Cain said no staff members or detainees were in any immediate danger. He also said there have been no reported cases of medical emergencies.
