Downtown Monroe is gearing up for a celebration on Friday July 5, 2024, with local events and entertainment leading up to fireworks over the Twin Cities on the Ouachita River. Events include a Block Party and market on Art Alley from 5 to 9 p.m., a Downtown Pub Crawl, and a Firecracker 5K. The Black Creatives Circle hosts its Creative Convos in Art Alley at 7 p.m.
Shreveport Woman Receives $18,000 Grant to Purchase First Home
Shreveport, LA – In a transformative move, Lakesia Williams, a plastic surgeon’s assistant from Shreveport, Louisiana, has become a first-time homeowner with the help of an $18,000 Homebuyer Equity Leverage Partnership (HELP) grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas), facilitated through ANECA Federal Credit Union (ANECA). This grant has provided Ms. Williams with the financial support necessary to purchase the home she had been renting for the past three years.
Shreveport Welcomes World Champ Mark Henry
Former Olympian and World Heavyweight Champion, Mark Henry is coming to Shreveport this august for Geek'd Con. Mark Henry started his athletic career as a powerlifter at age 18, earning himself the name of World's Strongest Teenager after setting world records for his age, that title would follow him into adulthood as the World's Strongest Man. Henry would take part in the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games, and won several medals in the Pan American Games, later retiring from weightlifting after suffering a back injury. Henry began his pro-wrestling career in 1996 and would go on to win the World Heavyweight Championship.

Ouachita Parish authorities ask public for help searching for missing man
WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE) - The Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help locating a missing man. Authorities say Judson Talbot, 38, was last contacted on Pleasant Valley Dr. in West Monroe and is known to frequent the Bawcomville area. Talbot is 6′0″ and 160 pounds.
