Damar Hamlin reveals 10 winners of Cincinnati scholarships, in honor of UC medical staff
Ten students will receive the 2024 Cincinnati Heroes Scholarship from Damar Hamlin's Chasing M's Foundation. The program, which will award $1,000 scholarships to 10 students each year for the next three years, is in honor of the 10 medical personnel who helped save the Buffalo Bills safety's life. Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest and collapsed on the field in 2023 while playing the Bengals at Paycor Stadium.
UC alumna Jordan Thompson selected to 2024 US Olympic team
Former University of Cincinnati volleyball player Jordan Thompson has been selected to the 2024 U.S. Olympic Women's Volleyball Team, the organization announced recently. Thompson has been tabbed to her second consecutive Olympic roster. She was part of the 2020 U.S. team that won the gold medal in Tokyo, becoming the sixth Bearcat to earn a gold medal. She joined track and field athlete Mary Wineberg (2008), aquatics athlete Jennifer Kemp (1972) and soccer athlete Vanessa Giles (2020) as well as George Wilson (1964) and Oscar Robertson (1960) from the men's basketball program.

The Reds held on for a victory last night, topping the Yankees 5-4 in New York. The winning pitcher was the Reds’ Graham Ashcraft, who’s now 5 & 4 on the season. New York’s Luis Gil taking the loss. Elly De La Cruz tripled for the Reds leading off the 4th inning, then crossed the plate for Cincinnati’s first score on a ground ball to 2nd base. Stuart Fairchild was hit by a pitch leading off the 5th, and that set up Will Benson’s home run. Jonathan India was then also hit by a pitch from New York’s Gil, and De La Cruz followed that with his 15th homer of the year. Ashcraft started on the mound for Cincinnati and kept New York off the board for 5 innings, but gave up 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th. Fernando Cruz and Alexis Diaz combined late in the game, to shut the Yankees down in the final 2 innings, Diaz chalking up his 18th save of the season. The series continues tonight at Yankee Stadium. Brewer named Enquirer All- Star Bowler Of The Year
On June 17, the Cincinnati Enquirer held its fall, winter and spring sports All-Star Awards ceremony at Princeton High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Enquirer had selected and invited the top athletes from each of the various sports from their Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana service area to attend. It is an honor for any athlete to be named as one of the Enquirer's nominees for this event. In each sport two athletes (one boy and one girl) were named as the overall All-Star of the Year based on their achievements through out the season.
Daniel Wetterich paces crowded Ohio Open Championship leaderboard entering final round
WESTFIELD CENTER — A new leader emerged Tuesday, but the 103rd Ohio Open Championship remains a wide-open affair after the second round at Westfield Country Club. Cincinnati professional Daniel Wetterich fired a 7-under 63 on the North course to take sole possession of first place at 9-under overall. He'll have plenty of competition entering Wednesday's final round on the South course, with 10 golfers within three shots of the lead.
Beaches in Norfolk, Hampton and Newport News under swim advisories
The Virginia Department of Health has issued swimming advisories for nine beaches in Norfolk, one in Hampton and two in Newport News following recent heavy rains which introduced potentially harmful bacteria to the water. Xavier lands seven on 2024 All-Bay Conference Baseball Team
Xavier had three first-team selections to the 2024 All-Bay Conference Baseball Team, as voted on by the conference coaches following the season. Senior infielder Anthony Weyers and senior pitcher Parker Bleck were unanimous first-team picks, and senior outfielder Luke Krull also earned first-team honors for the Hawks, who went 9-9 in the Bay Conference and finished 15-13 overall after reaching the WIAA Division 2 sectional finals.
