Portage HS scores | Aug. 14: Southeast girls golf surges to 5-0

Southeast girls golf surged to 5-0 (2-0 Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference) with Wednesday's 165-246 victory over Garfield.

Taylor Blazec earned medalist honors for the Pirates with her 36. All four Southeast scorers tallied a 44 or better, also including Sammy Morgan (41), Aubree Varga (42) and Adrianna Sloan (44).

Addison Snyder led Garfield with her 53.

Copley 171, Streetsboro 211

Copley (2-0) impressed with all four scorers at 45 or below: Madison Maxwell (40), Anna Yacknow (42), Hannah Rousch (44) and Ashley Bodish (45).

Hazel Schoenherr led Streetsboro (2-1) with her 48 while Sarah Czirok was close behind with a 50.

Boys Golf

Rootstown 175, Springfield 215

The Rovers moved to 6-1 with a balanced effort, with their four scorers all finishing within two strokes of one another: Anthony Cambareri (43), Ryan Wolf (43), Luke Flowers (44) and Trentan Sines (45).

Lowellville 178, Waterloo 181, Springfield 189

Three MVAC golf teams finished within 11 strokes of one another, including the Rockets edging the Vikings (2-2, 2-2) by three strokes.

Medalist honors were similarly close with Springfield's Jackson Ensley (38) just edging Waterloo's Trevor Simons (39). Mitchell Shepherd and Clayton Smith added a 45 apiece for the Vikings.

Ravenna 3, Southeast 2

The Ravens rolled to a nonleague victory Wednesday, guided by straight-set wins from Whitney Holmes and Mallory Sterba at first and second singles, respectively. Ravenna's second doubles tandem of Janayah Maddox and Emily Scibelli also won in straight sets.

Southeast picked up wins at third singles (Miranda Timko) and first doubles (Natalie Kemble and Caroline Sherry).
