Letter: Thoughts on the West End

We all know about Flag Day and Memorial Day and Veterans Day, but in my opinion, the most striking and rewarding day for Vail veterans is the Fourth of July. We veterans, we lead the parade. We veterans, we keynote the patriotic concert at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater. We...

Why summer is secretly Vail’s best season
Long-time Vail residents fondly say, “Winter is great, but summer is why we live here,” despite the global popularity of its ski slopes. While the winter experience at the sprawling slopes of the Bavarian-style resort is spectacular, Vail’s summer adventures are next level. Offering an abundance of...
Vail Symposium celebrates the 55-year anniversary of the first lunar landing
In July 1969, the world watched and listened as Charlie Duke, CapCom for Apollo 11, counted down the lunar module and Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin first touched down on the moon. As Armstrong radioed “Houston, Tranquility Base here, the Eagle has landed” on July 20, Duke replied, “Roger, Tranquility Base (though he says in a 1999 NASA interview that in his excitement he couldn’t get it out so it came out ‘Twangquility.’) We copy you down. We’ve got a bunch of guys about to turn blue. But we’re breathing again.”
