Back-to-School 2024: When does school start in metro Atlanta?
ATLANTA - As summer winds down, excitement fills the air in metro Atlanta as students prepare to return to school. The back-to-school dates vary across the region, with many districts welcoming students back in early August. For instance, Atlanta Public Schools, Barrow County Schools, and Clayton County Schools will all begin their academic year on Aug. 1. Other districts like Carrollton City Schools and Pike County Schools have set their start dates later, on Aug. 12. However, there are a few that go back the last week in July.
All Rockdale Students to Receive Free Meals
CONYERS — All students in Rockdale County Public Schools will receive free breakfast and lunch in the coming school year under the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) of the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program. Families will no longer need to submit a Free/Reduced Meals application in order for students to receive the meals.

1K students receive new shoes, school supplies from Change Church
ATLANTA - On July 20, 2024, Change Church, in partnership with The Change Foundation and local businesses, hosted the 2nd Annual Change Mart, a back-to-school initiative aimed at providing free school supplies and new sneakers to children from kindergarten through 8th grade. The event, held at Change Church, was open to the public and welcomed both church members and non-members.
Local TSA pupils win prizes at national competition
Students from both Walnut Grove High School and Loganville High School brought back hardware from the recent Technology Student Association national conference. Students from the clubs from both school competed in the national conference held in Orlando from June 26-30, with representation from 48 states. Eight students from WGHS attended the conference, competing in several events over four days, while two LHS grads attended and won recognition in their last hurrah with the TSA.
Georgia High School Football Media Day increases primer for 2024 season
The second-annual Georgia High School Football Media Day returns July 24-25 with two new locations and two full days of unprecedented access to the state’s top talent and programs. Kickoff to the 2024 season is right around the corner and after a successful inaugural event in 2023 that saw 85 teams participate, this year’s lineup includes a second day and flag football teams from across the state. Both days will run from 10 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 24 will take place in Atlanta at the Mechanical Trades Institute building, a state-of-the-art facility where players will be highlighted, promoted, and celebrated. In addition, there will be multiple trade unions in attendance with displays focused on welding, plumbing, and heating and air for players to learn through a hands-on experience about several career opportunities after they graduate high school.
