Hillsborough's "Flintstone House" to host high-end sushi pop-up
If you've ever driven north on Interstate 280 towards San Francisco, you've probably spotted what is commonly referred to as the "Flintstone House."Now the unusual Bay Area landmark is being turned into a pop-up restaurant. The home in Hillsborough was built in the 1970s. The builder used concrete and shaped it with mesh frames and inflated balloons that gives it the lumpy, prehistoric look evocative of the classic stone-age cartoon from the 1960s. More recently the owner loaded up on lawn decorations. At one point, city officials and neighbors in Hillsborough even tried to have the property declared a public nuisance. Now the property will be home to the pop-up sushi restaurant fittingly named Stoneage Omakase starting July 12. It will utilize the house's cave-like dining room and diners will get to tour the home with its Flintstones memorabilia.According to social media posts, opening night is planned for July 12th. Patrons will enjoy a 15-course Japanese tasting menu prepared by Chef Masa Sasaki, who earned Michelin stars at his now closed restaurants Maruya and Sasaki. The meals will have a price tag of $230 per person. The initial batch of reservations was reportedly snapped up within 15 minutes when they were made available Thursday.
Bay Area beaches become magnet for overheated inland dwellers
As much of the Bay Area continues to sweat through the ongoing excessive heat warning and heat advisory, many flocked to the coast for relief. While the East Bay and South Bay saw temperatures in the 90s, Pacifica was about 20 degrees cooler. "We were in the 90's, 98 in Hayward," Manish, a Hayward resident visiting Pacifica, said while walking his dog, Pluto. "(I'm) not taking (Pluto) out as much (at home). Only after maybe 8 p.m. in the evening. But during the day, (I'm) keeping him indoors and keeping him hydrated." "It has been hot, to say the least....

A Peninsula woman and platinum-selling songwriter helped along the way by an industry organization is now paying it forward by leading the group and supporting other budding artists. With each lyric Jennifer Adan writes, she paints a picture she hopes will resonate with anyone who listens and strike a chord within herself. "That's kind of what makes this so special is when I can write something that others can relate to and maybe I can put something into words that someone didn't have the words to say," she told CBS News Bay Area. Growing up in San Mateo, she...
After two shake-ups, Alisal Union School District is searching for an after-school contractor for music and arts programs.
Alisal Union School District is getting ready for the upcoming 2024-25 school year, which begins Aug. 7. What might be missing: after-school programs in the arts. AUSD recently terminated contracts with two extracurricular providers. On May 30, AUSD announced it terminated its contract with Alisal Community Arts Network, known as AlisalCAN, a nonprofit that taught four programs in the district, after the group’s executive director, Joshua Alfaro, was arrested on charges of child molestation. Alfaro entered a plea of not guilty; his preliminary hearing is scheduled to begin July 10.

Sunday Brunch at Hula Hoops is a Crowd Pleaser
We organized a brunch meetup at South San Francisco’s Hula Hoops within the South SF Bay Area Tiki Ohana Group in Facebook, and so a bunch of people came out to see folks and try Hula Hoops’ amazing brunch and cocktails. Great to see everyone and to take advantage of easy reservation options. Staffing was super friendly and all our items came out in a timely manner even though it was quite busy.
BART hired falcon handlers to scare off pigeons. Pigeon lovers are fighting back
As commuting crowds make their way to the Hayward BART station each morning, the arid town heats up and pigeons surrounding the station begin to multiply exponentially. Under the tracks, a chorus of baby birds hums. Inside the station, thousands of pigeon feathers adorn the ceiling. Bird spikes sprout from nearly every surface and in the station’s concrete crevices, pigeons hide in nests and on mounds of caked feces.
