Gladbrook Methodist to host ‘Preserve the Taste of Summer’ Extension workshop
GLADBROOK – Summer is in full swing, and many families are growing home gardens. Preserving your garden’s summer bounty is a great way to enjoy your home-grown produce year-round – as long as you don’t serve foodborne illness, like botulism, with your home-preserved foods, say specialists with Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach.
July Senior Dinner features an Independence Day theme
GLADBROOK – The Gladbrook American Legion Auxiliary hosted the July Senior Dinner decorating with a 4th of July theme. Rev. John Granchie gave a prayer before the meal. All enjoyed a turkey dinner with homemade cream puffs for dessert. Sue Koster and Claire Handorf performed a skit entitled ‘Stars and Stripes Forever.’ Claire was a TV moderator and interviewed Francis Scott Key who wrote the National Anthem; Francis Bellamy who wrote the “Pledge to the Flag;” and Bessy Ross who made the first official United States flag. The program was both educational and entertaining. The group sang Happy Birthday to Dorothy Wiese who was celebrating her 97th birthday. There is no Senior Dinner in August. The Sept. dinner will be hosted by the Chapel Church on Sept. 13 at the Memorial Building. Call Jeanne for reservations.
Phase 3 Segment of New Hampton Tribe Trail Could Open in August
The Phase 3 segment of the Tribe Trail in New Hampton could be open in about a month. That’s New Hampton Park-Rec Director Tara Hackman, who says officials were meeting Wednesday (07.17) should have a firmer idea of when Phase 3 will be completed to connect the Tribe Trail from Linn Avenue on the south side of New Hampton with the Chickasaw Wellness Center on the west side of town.

MUSCATINE, Iowa (KWQC) - A Muscatine woman has been formally charged with 67 counts of animal neglect, including the death of six animals. The Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office seized the animals from Kelly Adams, 44, last month. And the animals have been housed at a Muscatine animal shelter named It Takes a Village Animal Rescue and Resources (ITAVARR) ever since.
