I am keeping tabs on the confirmed tornado touchdown near Forestport and from the sound of it all is OK. I sure hope so. That is too close for comfort! The sky was still black a few minutes before sunset and still scary looking. I will be checking the news for more updates. It seems Lowville was hit by flooding.

Rome grapples with destruction as tornado leaves many homeless and uncertain
ROME, N.Y. — As the lights come back on and streets reopen in Rome, some neighbors are left without a place to call home after Tuesday’s tornado. Many residential streets in the city – which is home to approximately 32,000 people – were devastated, some more obviously than others. Code enforcement is still in the process of going door to door to determine how many houses are no longer safe to live in.
Cleanup from Rome tornado continues
As the city of Rome continues to clean up from the storm and EF-2 tornado that ripped through the city nearly a week ago, multiple businesses are offering goods and services. Lowe's in Rome provided free tornado cleanup supplies to residents Monday morning, with plans to distribute more than 800 buckets filled with recovery items while supplies last. Some of those items include disinfectant wipes, water, a flashlight and more.

Anyone Can Now Park in the Oneida County Wynn Hospital Parking Garage
Well, it is finally finished and the day has come where the general public now has a better option for parking in Downtown Utica. MVHS and Wynn Hospital employees have already been allowed to park their vehicles in the newly constructed parking complex adjacent to the downtown health center campus, however the time has come for everyone to have their chance. Oneida County officials announced Friday that beginning on Saturday, July 20th, 2024 the parking garage will be open and available for the general public is now welcome.
Storm Damage in the Adirondacks
Severe summer storms, torrential rain, and flash flooding have washed out roads, knocked out power to tens of thousands in the Adirondacks and Central New York, and even tornadoes touched down in the Town of Wells, and the City of Rome. This came on top of the flooding & damage caused by the remnants of Hurricane Beryl last week that battered New York and Vermont leaving behind millions in damage. Essex County was hit hard.
Governor Hochul needs to declare a Climate Emergency
On Wednesday, Governor Kathy Hochul stood outside of a church in Rome, NY for a press conference to declare a State of Emergency after the storm system that produced Hurricane Beryl passed through the state and left scars of destruction in communities like the Town of Eden. During the event, she noted the destruction of the roof and steeple behind her were part of a wider path of destruction that hit the city and the surrounding area and tornado warnings were posted from Jamestown to Plattsburgh. Pointing out that her three-year administration had to deal with more historic nature events than probably anybody in history, she added “These extreme weather events are no longer the abnormal. They are the new normal.”

BOONVILLE — On Monday, July 8, a ribbon-cutting was held at the Boonville-Oneida County Fair for Heddy’s Haven, a sensory retreat for those who may have a sensory processing disorder or for those that get overstimulated.
