Names released in Minnehaha County crash that killed an Iowa motorcyclist
HARTFORD, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - A motorcyclist from Iowa died Friday evening in a two-vehicle crash on I-90 near Hartford. The crash happened at 5:52 p.m. The Department of Public Safety states that the driver of a 2017 Harley Davidson Heritage — 67-year-old David L. Rowe from Williamsburg, Iowa — was traveling east on I-90 in a split-lane construction zone.
Correctional officer attacked in yet another incident
SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — State officials are investigating another alleged attack on a correctional officer at the South Dakota Penitentiary in Sioux Falls. This attack took place on August 5th, just two days after an officer was reportedly “choked out” by an inmate and required medical attention. In the most recent incident, the officer was unable to activate his personal alarm, but managed to alert a co-worker for help. The Attorney General’s Division of Criminal Investigation is working the case.
Mid-Sioux hosts food pantry fundraiser
SIOUX CENTER—A nonprofit is looking to support its food pantry with food truck vendors and raffle fundraiser. Backyard BBQ of Sioux Falls, SD, and 712 Nutrition of Sioux Center will be serving food and drinks 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, in the parking lot of Mid-Sioux Opportunity Inc.’s Sioux County outreach office, 618 14th St. NE, Sioux Center. The raffle will be drawn at 1:30 p.m. All proceeds support the organization’s Sioux Center-based food pantry.
Jefferson Rotary to Have Kick-Off 2024 Auction and Banquet Fundraiser With Early Auction Item
The Jefferson Rotary Club is offering an early auction item ahead of its normal fundraiser in November. According to the Rotary Club, the pre-sale auction item is four tickets to see comedian Jim Gaffigan live on September 14th for his “Barely Alive” tour. The tickets are in the 17th row of the center floor seating at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The auction item also includes two hotel rooms at the nearby Grand Falls Casino and Golf Resort in Larchwood, Iowa. Additionally, as a bonus, the winning bid will also receive a first edition copy autographed book from Gaffigan called, “Food, A Love Story.”

Investigation into baby found at recycling center will take time
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Police detectives are working to uncover more information almost a week after a newborn baby was found at a Sioux Falls recycling center. Last Tuesday, an employee at Millennium Recycling called the police and reported finding the body of a baby. Police described the baby as a “full-term infant.”
