Bloomberg reports that pickleball is even overtaking golf as the new corporate sport because of how inexpensive it is to get started. Over the weekend, The Box Elder Events Center hosted its ‘Beat the Heat’ tournament. The Box also hosts a tournament in the fall called ‘Pickle Boo’. These tournaments are open to anyone: men, women and mixed divisions, open to all ages.

Canova, Wood Ducks, and PBR head to the 2nd round in Mitchell
Teams from the Corn Belt League went 3-4 during the first round of the Class B State Amatuer Baseball tournament in Mitchell. The Harford-Humboldt Wood Ducks, Canova Gang, and Dell Rapids PBR each won their opening round games. The Flandreau Cardinals, Hartford-Humboldt Gamecocks, Salem Cubs, and Dell Rapids Mudcats all lost in the opening round.

Correctional officer attacked in yet another incident
SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — State officials are investigating another alleged attack on a correctional officer at the South Dakota Penitentiary in Sioux Falls. This attack took place on August 5th, just two days after an officer was reportedly “choked out” by an inmate and required medical attention. In the most recent incident, the officer was unable to activate his personal alarm, but managed to alert a co-worker for help. The Attorney General’s Division of Criminal Investigation is working the case.
