Watertown Police Department Joins Forces for Successful ‘Cops and Bobbers’ Event
{KXLG – Watertown, SD} Over the weekend, the Watertown Police Department teamed up with local law enforcement agencies for a fun-filled day at the South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks’ Cops and Bobbers event at Sandy Shore State Park. The event, designed to foster community engagement and introduce families to the joys of fishing, was a resounding success.
Correctional officer attacked in yet another incident
SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — State officials are investigating another alleged attack on a correctional officer at the South Dakota Penitentiary in Sioux Falls. This attack took place on August 5th, just two days after an officer was reportedly “choked out” by an inmate and required medical attention. In the most recent incident, the officer was unable to activate his personal alarm, but managed to alert a co-worker for help. The Attorney General’s Division of Criminal Investigation is working the case.

The Federal Select Committee on Legislative Relationships with Ellsworth Air Force Base met with the Ellsworth Development Authority, school districts, the Department of Transportation, and other groups to discuss the socioeconomic impact of upcoming changes on western South Dakota.
Pierre School Board To Hold Meeting Tonight
PIERRE, (KCCR) — The Pierre School Board is meeting tonight at the District Administration Building on Poplar Avenue. The Board will consider approval of a eight-item consent calendar before hearing comments from Superintendent Dr, Kelly Glodt. Any Board comments and comments from the public will follow. Board members will get hear a playground inspection report and consider final reading an adoption of revisions to the Classified Employee Handbook. First reading will be given to three policy changes. All three are related to fund handling and financial reimbursements. The Board will consider an amendment to the 2024 budget and will get a hear the 2024 preliminary financial report for the District. Board members will consider action on the 2024 Audit Engagement for the 2024 fiscal year. The Pierre School Board will also consider for approval donations, contract items and any open-enrollment requests for the upcoming school year. The Pierre School Board meets tonight at 5:30 pm. The meeting is open to the community.

Yankton Post 12 had two squad members named to the 2024 Class A Legion Baseball All-State team, with Lucas Kampshoff on the 1st Team and Tate Beste on the 2nd Team. Kampshoff, a future Mount Marty Lancer, finished the Legion season leading the team in batting average, runs scored, doubles, and triples. Kampshoff was also tied for 1st in home runs and 2nd in RBIs.
