Douglas wins thriller to advance to state softball championship; Fallon vs Fernley for 3A state title

Douglas had to win twice on Friday, and score twice in the seventh in the second game, and now the Tigers look to repeat as state softball champions.

They will have to win twice again on Saturday to do it.

Douglas beat Spanish Springs, 7-1 in a losers' bracket game on Friday, then beat Palo Verde, 3-2, in the nightcap to advance to face Coronado for the 5A state softball championship.

The first game is set for 9 a.m. at Bishop Gorman. If Douglas wins that one, the if-necessary game will follow.

The Tigers got home runs from Ava Delaney and Cam McClelland against Palo Verde. Talia Tretton allowed three hits and struck out seven to get the win.

Coronado beat Palo Verde 15-4, on Friday to advance.

This is the third straight year Douglas will be playing for the state title.

• White Pine 10, Pershing County 6
• Saturday at Durango : Championship at 9 a.m., Needles vs White Pine

Class 1A State softball

• Friday at Fernley: Coleville 7, Pahranagat 4; Carlin 15, Round Mtn 10
• Pahranagat 11, Carlin 7
• Saturday at Fernley: Championship at 10 a.m., Coleville vs Pahranagat.
