    Reed junior Dawson wins two events at boys state swimming; Raiders tie for third

    Reed junior Hunter Dawson had a great meet at the 5A state swimming and diving competition, and he helped the Raiders team finish in a tied for third place.

    Dawson won the 50 free (21.11) and the 100 free (46.41). Dawson broke the school record and regionals record.

    Manogue junior diver Quinn Dyson won the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 473.55.

    The state swimming and diving competition was held Friday-Saturday at UNLV’s Buchanan Natatorium (diving) and at Pavilion Center Pool (swimming) in Las Vegas.

    More notable performances from Northern Nevada 5A swimmers include:

    • Reno senior Sam Dalinas, second in the 200 free (1:43.04)
    • Reed junior Vlad Shustov, third in the 100 back (51.73)
    • Reno freshman Jaxon Hardt, third in the 100 breast (1:00.19)
    • Douglas' Allen Baker, second in diving (390.85)
    • Douglas' Kolten Brown, third in diving (357.15)
    • Galena junior Jude light, third in the 100 fly (52.25)

    In the relays, Reed took second in the 200 medley relay with Vlad Shustov, Ethan Swenski, Ben Miller, and Hunter Dawson (1:37.45).

    In the 3A state meet; Truckee tied for the team title with Boulder City, each with 112 points, and Coral Academy-Reno was next with 83.

    Notable performances from the Northern Nevada 3A boys include:

    • Coral senior Avner Mamauag, second in the 200 free (1:50.65), second 100 fly (54.80)
    • North Tahoe sophomore John Lanza, third in the 200 free (1:54.27)
    • Coral senior Joseph Sirhan, won the 200 IM (1:53.60), won the 500 free (4:41.23)
    • Truckee senior Asher Kates, second 200 IM (1:55.42), first 100 back (52.13)
    • Truckee senior Noah Erskine, second in the 50 free (22.64), second in the 100 free (48.82)
    • Sage Ridge junior Zach Power, won the 100 fly (51.92)
    • Fallon senior Zachary Koenig, won the 100 free (48.61)
    • North Tahoe junior Macallan Rocco, third in the 100 back (55.47);

    Koenig's win is believed to be the first by a Fallon boy at state since the mid-1980s.

    Truckee won the boys 200 medley relay with Noah Erskine, Asher Kates, Zander Phelan and Lance Wogsland (1:41.48). Coral won the 200 free relay with Felix Siemiatkowski, Jasen Nicola, Avner Mamauag and Joseph Sirhan (1:32.01). Truckee won the 400 free relay with Erskine, Blake Startsev, Blake Moran and Kates (3:20.09).
