North Valleys junior wins Champion Chevrolet Athlete of the Week fan vote

North Valleys' Avery Demitropoulos picked up the most votes in the fan voting poll this week for the Championship Chevrolet RGJ Athlete of the Week.

The weekly poll received its third-highest vote total ever — 65,853 — as Demitropoulos earned 52.9 percent of the votes cast. Reno freshman track star Mackenzie Sellers finished in second place with 42.1 percent.

Demitropoulos won the the 200 IM and 100 butterfly at the 3A Regional swim meet on May 10-11 and broke the school record in the 200 IM for her seventh school record in the past three years.

At the 3A state meet on May 18, she took third in both the 200 IM and 100 fly.

It's the second straight week that a Northern Nevada swimming and diving team member has taken the top spot in the poll. Reno's Sam Dalinas won the honor for the week of May 6-12.
