    Mid-80s temps this week as Aces, Reno-Tahoe Odyssey, Back Country Festival return

    It feels like summer! Mid-80s temperatures are set to return throughout the week, pedal boats are back at Virginia Lake and the Reno Aces are back in town to host the Salt Lake Bees. Watch for runners and cyclists on the road this weekend during two of the region's biggest road races of the year.

    Here's a look at what's happening in Northern Nevada for the week of May 27-June 2.

    Northern Nevada events, May 27-June 2

    Memorial Day ceremony, May 27: Fernley's Northern Nevada Veterans Cemetery invites the public to participate in a ceremony to honor the fallen during a ceremony at 11 a.m. at 14 Veterans Way in Fernley. For details, visit supportnnvc.org .

    Pedal boats at Virginia Lake, May 27: The pedal boats are back at Virginia Lake between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Boats seat 2-4 people; rental fees are $25 per half-hour, $35 per hour.

    Reno Aces vs. Salt Lake Bees, May 28-June 2: Minor League Baseball's Aces return home to take on the Salt Lake Bees, the top affiliate for the Los Angeles Angels. Highlights of the homestand include postgame fireworks on Friday, a Snoopy figurine on Saturday and $1 hot dogs on Sunday. For details and tickets, call 775-334-7000 or visit renoaces.com .

    Menopause: The Musical, May 28-June 2: This traveling show pokes musical fun at women and aging with some funny and sometimes poignant tunes. Shows take place at 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, as well as at 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Performances are at the Showroom, Eldorado Hotel Casino, 345 N. Virginia St., Reno.     Reno-Tahoe Odyssey, May 31-June 1: Running teams will tackle a 178-mile loop from downtown Reno, through Truckee, around the west shore of Lake Tahoe, through Carson City and Virginia City during this around-the-clock footrace. For details, visit renotahoeodyssey.com .

    Back Country Festival 2024, May 31-June 2: It's the return of this festival that features emerging country, folk and roots rock artists. The headliners this year are Justin Moore, Charles Wesley Godwin and Brent Cobb. Music starts at 11 a.m. each day at the festival site at Corley Ranch, 859 U.S. Highway 395, Gardnerville.     Reno Night Market, May 31: Enjoy live music, food trucks, live art, a makers' market and more at the debut of this monthly summer event at the J Resort's Glow Plaza Festival Grounds, 670 W.     Skid Row, May 31: A metal band with a tumultuous relationship with lead singers, Skid Row has replaced its frontperson again on the eve of a late spring tour. Gone is Erik Gronwell, and in for now is quite the ringer — Halestorm singer Lzzy Hale. The show is at 8 p.m. at the Grand Ballroom, Nugget Casino Resort, 1100 Nugget Ave., Sparks.     The Music of John Williams in Concert, June 1-2: The Reno Phil performs the music of cinematic legend John Williams with scores from the Star Wars, Harry Potter and Jurassic Park movie franchises, and much more. Two performances are set for Saturday — a 1 p.m. matinee and a 7 p.m. evening concert — at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts, 100 S.     America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride, June 2: The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is holding a fundraising bike ride between Truckee and Tahoe City, and around Lake Tahoe.     Wand, June 2: This expressive, interesting indie-meets-psychedelic Los Angeles band has made Reno a consistent stop during its many rounds of touring.     Northern Nevada roads, May 27-June 2

    Reno-Tahoe Odyssey, May 31-June 1: Watch for runners on roads throughout northwestern Nevada and around Lake Tahoe this Friday and Saturday during the annual 33-hour footrace.

    America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride, June 2: Watch for cyclists on the road between Truckee and Tahoe City and around Lake Tahoe beginning at 6 a.m. Sunday as part of a fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

    I-580, south Reno: Southbound I-580 will see lane reductions near the Summit Mall while crews flatten bridge transitions over South Virginia Street. Overnight lane reductions will take place between Mt. Rose Highway and South Meadows Parkway between 6 p.m. and 7 a.m., with periodic overnight ramp closures at Mt. Rose Highway, South Meadows Parkway and Damonte Ranch Parkway, through early summer.

    Steamboat Parkway, south Reno: Crews will expand the stretch of Steamboat Parkway from four lanes to six between Marketplace Drive and Veterans Parkway through November.

    U.S. 395, North Valleys: Northbound traffic will continue be reduced to two lanes on U.S. 395 through mid-2025 due to the Nevada Department of Transportation's work to widen U.S. 395 between North McCarran Boulevard and Golden Valley Road. The on-ramp at Panther Valley north of Reno will be closed through late 2024.

    U.S. 395 north of Topaz Lake: Single-lane closures will take place in one-mile sections from the state line to Ray May Way between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. on weekdays through August as NDOT repaves the roadway. Reduced speed limits will be in place. Drivers should expect travel delays of up to 30 minutes.
