Carson senior wins Champion Chevrolet Athlete of the Week after 2-touchdown game

The fall sports calendar is underway, and RGJ readers have selected Carson's Christian Rey as the winner of the season's first Champion Chevrolet RGJ Athlete of the Week poll.

The Carson senior collected 54.8% of the more than 11,000 votes cast this week. North Valleys' Hector Nunez finished second with 25.6% of the vote, and Galena's Colson Kermode finished third with 13.6%.

Rey carried the ball 13 times for 65 yards and two touchdowns in the Senators' 27-0 win over North Las Vegas' Canyon Springs High School on Aug. 17.

The Senators play their second game of the season at Spring Creek on Friday night.
