    Reno-Tahoe’s summer-to-fall slate of shows has something for every fan of every style, from legendary names in the music and comedy worlds to the hottest artists burning up the charts and streaming channels.

    It’s also the center of festival season, with the decade-diverse Hot August Nights musical lineup recently announced among other concert series or special events taking place through the start of autumn.

    See below for selected shows taking place now through Sept. 30.

    Artown 2024

    Continuing its eclectic mix of art and entertainment, the Artown festival features several artists this year. The list of musicians includes ukulele artist Jake Shimabukuro (July 2), legendary pop singer Dionne Warwick (July 12), African vocal troupe Ladysmith Black Mambazo (July 23), hip bluegrass-folk band Steep Canyon Rangers (July 27) and the excellent art-pop-meets-Latin-rock group Y La Bamba as the closer (July 31).

    Sumac

    This experimental metal group from the Pacific Northwest features members of the bands Isis and Russian Circles. It just released its latest album, “The Healer.” They'll play this show in a more intimate venue than their fans usually see: 8 p.m. at Holland Project, 140 Vesta St., Reno.

    Blue Öyster Cult

    Original singer/guitarists Eric Bloom and Buck Dharma still lead this legendary classic rock band, known for big hits such as “Don’t Fear The Reaper,” “Burnin’ For You,” “Godzilla” and “The Red and the Black.” They’re back in the area for this show at 7 p.m. at Glow Plaza, J Resort, 670 W. Fourth St., Reno.

    Ideateam

    Sacramento always has some interesting musical acts in their scene, and this longtime group is no exception. From soul music to funk to more experimental styles, they cover a wide range. They play at 8 p.m. at Reno Public Market, 299 E. Plumb Lane, Reno.

    Glass Spells

    Hailing from San Diego, this indie-pop duo uses synthesizers for a retro yet modern sound for its danceable but catchy tunes. They play at 8 p.m. at The Ranch House, 906 Victorian Ave., Sparks.

    Howie Mandel

    From his current gig as a judge on “America’s Got Talent” to his beginnings as an actor and stand-up comic, Mandel has earned a loyal following that flocks to see his comedy. He’s back in the area for this show at 8 p.m. at the Showroom, Bally’s Lake Tahoe Casino Resort, 55 Highway 50, Stateline.

    Palm Tree Festival

    A new name on the national fest scene, this one caters to fans of electronic and dance music and features acts such as Gryffin, Disco Lines and Drama. It takes place at 6:30 p.m. at Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena, Harveys Lake Tahoe, 18 Highway 50, Stateline.

    Ahmed Ahmed

    This comedian and actor is known for his topical and also personal standup shows as well as TV and movie roles, including a recurring part in the '10s sitcom “Sullivan and Son.” Both his shows start at 7 p.m. at the Celebrity Showroom, Nugget Casino Resort, 1100 Nugget Ave., Sparks.

    Vokab Company

    Hailing from San Diego, this group blends hip-hop, jam-band music and electronic/dance styles for its sound. It plays at 9 p.m. at Cypress, 761 S. Virginia St., Reno.

    Sparks Folk Fest

    A first-time event, this one will feature music, arts and food and drink. The musical lineup includes a solo artist named Robbie Fitzimmons and a group called the Wandering Menstruals. It all begins at 4 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday in Victorian Square, 905 Victorian Ave., Sparks.

    Colin Jost

    This comedic actor and writer is known for at least a couple of things beyond his stand-up routines. He's been the co-host of "Weekend Update," a recurring news segment on "Saturday Night Live," for the past decade and has been married to actress Scarlett Johansson since 2020. He is going back on the road this summer, with a show slated for 8 p.m. at Tahoe Blue Event Center, 75 Highway 50, Stateline.

    Dancing in the Streets

    This event is for all kinds of music lovers, as it features mostly live music from different genres. Headliners include Keyser Soze, Zoinks, DJ Madder, New Wave Crave and Drinking With Clowns. It all takes place from 1 p.m.-11 p.m. in Midtown, along South Virginia Street.

    Punk Rock Weenie Roast

    A night featuring local and regional punk bands, including Cali’s System 86. Also on the bill are F.O., Hemmed Up, In the Works, Last One Down and Failed Fates. It all begins at 2 p.m. at Steamers’ Bar and Grill, 2236 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.

    38 Special

    Lead singer and guitarist Don Barnes is still fronting this Southern rock band whose best known songs include “Hold On Loosely,” “Back Where You Belong,” “Rockin’ Into The Night” and “Second Chance.” They’re back in town for this show at 8 p.m. at the Grand Theater, Grand Sierra Resort and Casino, 2500 E. Second St., Reno.

    Saqib

    Currently making a name for himself with a diverse electronic/dance style, this DJ/producer is from Brooklyn, New York. He’ll perform at 10 p.m. at Dead Ringer Analog Bar, 432 E. Fourth St., Reno.

    Dawes

    This L.A. band earned its following with touring and releases on the regular. It’s acoustic-driven indie-rock music, with well-known songs such as “Things Happen,” “Who Do You Think You’re Talking To?” and “Mistakes We Should Have Made.” They will play at 7:30 p.m. at the South Shore Room,  Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, 15 Highway 50, Stateline.

    Maoli

    Jewel and Melissa Etheridge

    These two singer-songwriters are doing a theater tour together this summer.     Blues Traveler

    Harmonica player and vocalist John Popper still leads this band with jam-rock roots that often expands into blues, folk and alternative rock.     SambaDa

    For more than two decades, this group from the Bay Area has been blending styles effortlessly and with great skill: Brazilian music, samba, reggae and funk all have a place in their sound. Additionally, they have their own dance troupe performing with them. See it all at 7:30 p.m. at Reno Public Market, 299 E. Plumb Lane., Reno.

    Night In The Country Nevada

    This three-day fest has become one of the go-to events for fans of country, folk and roots-rock. Headliners include Randy Houser, Neal McCoy, Riley Green, Chase Rice, Bailey Zimmerman and Corey Kent. Music starts at 2:30 p.m. each day of the fest at its site, 115 Highway 95-A East in Yerington.

    Trace Adkins

    This country singer from Louisiana has balanced an acting career with regular album releases and tours. His big hits include “No Thinkin’ Thing,” “Every Light In The House” and “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk.” He’s back in the area for this show at 7:30 p.m. at TJ’s Corral, Carson Valley Inn, 1627 Highway 395 North, Minden.

    Samantha Fish

    Death Lens

    Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers

    Hornsby continues to bring jazz and even avant-garde touches to his piano-based roots rock. Live, he plays newer material as well as hits such as “The Way It Is” and “Mandolin Wind.” The band plays at 8 p.m. at the Grand Theater, Grand Sierra Resort and Casino, 2500 E. Second St., Reno.

    Gambler’s Run Music Festival

    For its second year, this popular festival has kept its diverse vibe. Headliners include The Wood Brothers, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, The Motet, Donavon Frankenreiter and the duo of Jackie Greene and Karl Denson. It all begins at noon each day in the Crown Room at Crystal Bay Club Casino, 14 State Highway 28, Crystal Bay.

    The Writhers

    This San Diego band mixes several different styles of punk and straightforward rock for its shock-and-horror-themed music. They headline a packed bill of similarly dark-edged touring and local bands starting at 7 p.m. at Alturas Bar, 1044 E. Fourth St., Reno.

    E-40

    A huge part of the Bay Area music scene, this rapper has been putting out albums and singles for decades. Expect hits such as “Tell Me When To Go,” “Function” and “Choices.” He’ll play at 8 p.m. at the Showroom, Bally’s Lake Tahoe Casino Resort, 55 Highway 50, Stateline.

    Green Jelly and the Convalescence

    Sonically, these two bands — Green Jelly, a punk-influenced hard rock band, and The Convalescence, a death-metal-meets-prog combo — have zero in common. But visually, they each do theatrical shows that are actually a smart touring package. It all begins at 8 p.m. at Virginia St. Brewhouse, 211 N. Virginia St., Reno.

    Shinedown

    This Florida band that mixes alternative and harder rock elements has been a big feature of modern rock radio, with hits such as “Sound of Madness,” “Cut the Cord” and “Monsters.” They return for this show at 7 p.m., Nugget Event Center, Nugget Casino Resort, 1100 Nugget Ave., Sparks.

    Bass Camp Festival VII

    This two-day dance/electronica event returns, with headliners on Saturday including Gigantic Nightmare, Kill Safari, Marten Horger, San Holo and Wax Motif, while Sunday is headlined by Zeds Dead, Bear Grillz, Herobust, Joyryde and What So Not. Music starts at 3 p.m. both days at Wingfield Park, 2 S. Arlington Ave., Reno.

    World Worst

    Yes, the name is goofy, but hear me out on this Utah band with the self-esteem issues. It’s clearly ironic, as this group plays punk-influenced indie at its most energetic, catchy and vibrant, at least among many others keeping this genre alive. They play at 7 p.m. at Lo-Bar Social, 445 California Ave., Reno.

    Boney James

    One of the leaders in the smooth jazz movement, this sax player plays that genre’s blend of melodic jazz and dance-inducing R&B. He’ll play at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Signature Series at Sand Harbor, Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park, 2005 Highway 28, Incline Village.

    Ana Barbara

    Rick Springfield and Richard Marx

    Two titans of pop-rock in the ‘80s (and part of the ‘90s) are touring together for what is being billed as “An Acoustic Evening.” Expect them to trade off songs such as “Right Here Waiting,” “Hazard” and “Don’t Mean Nothing” from Marx; and “Jessie’s Girl,” “Human Touch” and “Love Somebody” from Springfield.     Brantley Gilbert and Gary Allan

    Lake Tahoe Reggae Festival

    This seventh annual summer event features headliners that go beyond the reggae space, including excellent hip-hop artists Atmosphere and Cypress Hill. The other big acts, though, are squarely in the reggae space, including Shaggy, Collie Buddz, Rebelution and Tribal Seeds. It all begins at noon both days at Palisades Tahoe, 1960 Olympic Valley Road, Olympic Valley, California.

    Trampled By Turtles

    This was a nice surprise among the legacy acts that are mostly a part of the Glow Plaza’s inaugural summer series. From Duluth, Minnesota, they started as bluegrass revivalists in the ‘00s but have since evolved to include psychedelia, alternative rock and acoustic rock influences. They will play at 7 p.m. at Glow Plaza, J Resort, 670 W. Fourth St., Reno.

    Trey Kennedy

    Another stand-up comedian that’s benefited from YouTube and TikTok videos, this Oklahoma comedian has a devoted Christian audience for his observational, family-based work. He’ll perform at 8 p.m. at Grande Exposition Hall, Silver Legacy Resort Casino, 407 N. Virginia St., Reno.

    Hot August Nights

    This annual event offers attendees plenty to hear during its week-long run, including performances by several legendary combos from the ‘60s through the ‘80s. Among the headliners this year are Starship (Aug. 7), War (Aug 8), Night Ranger and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (both Aug. 9) and Tommy James and The Shondells and Blood Sweat and Tears (both Aug. 10).

    Charley Crockett

    This country-meets-soul singer-songwriter from Texas just released a really great album on his own label Son of Davy called “$10 Cowboy” that continues his eclectic sound. He’s bumped up to the theater circuit now for what is considered a top-drawer live show, making a stop at 8 p.m. at the Grand Theater, Grand Sierra Resort and Casino, 2500 E. Second St., Reno.

    Rod Stewart

    Goldfinger and Unwritten Law

    En Vogue

    Original vocalists Terry Ellis and Cindy Herron still power this R&B group that scored many hits starting in the late ‘80s.     Sawyer Brown

    The Stinkfoot Orchestra

    This one of many tribute bands to Frank Zappa has a notable difference: Its 14-piece lineup features singer and woodwind player Napoleon Murphy Brock and guitarist/singer Ray White, both of whom played with Zappa in the ‘70s or ‘80s. The band strikes up at 9 p.m. at Cypress, 761 S. Virginia St., Reno.

    Sunfish

    A Utah band that’s been around only since 2019, Sunfish has made a name for itself quickly with its distinctive mix of punk, funky grooves and psychedelic noise. It plays at 8 p.m. at Holland Project, 140 Vesta St., Reno.

    Me First and the Gimme Gimmes

    Filled with vets from the punk scene - including Spike Slawson from Swingin’ Utters, CJ Ramone and Joey Cape from Lagwagon - they have made a side career of punk-speed versions of punk, rock and jazz hits. It can be a total hoot, so check it out at 8 p.m. at Virginia St. Brewhouse, 211 N. Virginia St., Reno.

    The Drowns and The Last Gang

    A solid bill of traveling and local punk bands, as The Drowns (from Vegas) and The Last Gang (from L.A.) are joined by Slutzville (from Nevada City, California) and Reno’s Boss’ Daughter. It all begins at 7:30 p.m. at Alturas Bar, 1044 E. Fourth St., Reno.

    Mike Epps

    Starting as part of the Def Comedy Jam tours, Epps earned a second career as an actor, including in films such as “The Hangover” and “Next Friday” (and the upcoming “Madame Web” Marvel movie).     Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox

    You’ll hear what they call “today’s hits yesterday,” as this revolving troupe of singers performs modern songs in styles from at least 70 years ago.     JPEGMafia

    Barry Hendricks is JPEGMafia, creating a career for himself in the last decade as a hip-hop artist that mixes avant-garde styles, industrial music and even psychedelia into his music. He performs at 8 p.m. at Virginia St. Brewhouse, 211 N. Virginia St., Reno.

    Jon Pardi

    With a more traditional country sound than many of his fellow singer-songwriters, Pardi still packs them into arenas with this straightforward sound. His hits include “Head Over Boots,” “Heartache Medication” and “Last Night Lonely.” He’ll perform at 7 p.m. at Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena, Harveys Lake Tahoe, 18 Highway 50, Stateline.

    Bowers Bluegrass Festival

    A distinctive daylight-only festival, this year’s event, the 38th one to take place, features headliners Appalachian Road Show, AJ Lee and Blue Summit, Broken Compass and Salty Sally, among other regional and local purveyors of bluegrass and folk.
