    PGA Tour, Basque Festival, Lake Tahoe Shakespeare and more this week in Reno-Tahoe area

    Northwestern Nevada will get a tiny sliver of relief from three-digit temperatures, with highs expected in the 90s in the valleys through most of the coming week. It's great news for anyone looking to get outside in the next few days — the calendar is packed with events like Food Truck Friday and the Reno Basque Festival in Reno and the Barracuda Championship and Shakespeare up at Lake Tahoe.

    Here's a look at what's happening in the region for July 15-21, 2024.

    Northwestern Nevada events, July 15-21

    Artown, through July 31: Continuing its eclectic mix of art and entertainment, the Artown festival features several artists this year. Visit artown.org to get more details on all event times, dates, locations and ticket prices (some shows are free).

    Country Hits: Songs from Nashville, July 15: Country artists Emily West and Rick Brantley will perform alongside the Reno Philharmonic for this lakefront tribute to country music. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m. at Sand Harbor at Lake Tahoe NV State Park, 2005 Highway 28 in Incline Village. Tickets start at $72.     Always ... Patsy Cline, July 16, 19, 20: Catch this tribute to a country superstar and her long friendship with a fan, told through a lineup of Patsy Cline's greatest hits. This week's performances are Tuesday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 p.m. at Sand Harbor at Lake Tahoe NV State Park, 2005 Highway 28 in Incline Village. Tickets start at $17.     The Merry Wives of Windsor, July 17, 18, 21: Sir John Falstaff, short on cash, attempts to woo the wives of two wealthy merchants in this comedy by William Shakespeare. This week's performances are Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday nights at 7:30 p.m. at Sand Harbor at Lake Tahoe NV State Park, 2005 Highway 28 in Incline Village. Tickets start at $17.     38 Special, July 18: Lead singer and guitarist Don Barnes is still fronting this Southern rock band whose best known songs include “Hold On Loosely,” “Back Where You Belong,” “Rockin’ Into The Night” and “Second Chance.” They’re back in town for this show at 8 p.m. at the Grand Theater, Grand Sierra Resort and Casino, 2500 E.     Food Truck Friday, July 19: Reno summer weekends start at Food Truck Friday, with a 50-vendor cuisine lineup including American, Mexican, Asian fusion, Southern, Mediterranean, Brazilian and so many more.     Dawes, July 19: This L.A. band earned its following with touring and releases on the regular. It’s acoustic-driven indie-rock music, with well-known songs such as “Things Happen,” “Who Do You Think You’re Talking To?” and “Mistakes We Should Have Made.” They will play at 7:30 p.m. at the South Shore Room,  Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, 15 Highway 50, Stateline.     Maoli, July 19: Merging Polynesian and country music styles, this Hawaiian band has earned an international following with their distinctive sound.     Reno Basque Festival, July 20: The 56th annual celebration of Basque culture will be held at McKinley Arts and Culture Center, 925 Riverside Drive, at 10 a.m., with a social dance set for 8 p.m. at The Fe (formerly the Santa Fe) at 235 Lake Street. For details, visit renobasqueclub.org .

    Jewel and Melissa Etheridge, July 20: These two singer-songwriters are doing a theater tour together this summer.     Blues Traveler, July 20: Harmonica player and vocalist John Popper still leads this band with jam-rock roots that often expands into blues, folk and alternative rock.     SambaDa, July 20: For more than two decades, this group from the Bay Area has been blending styles effortlessly and with great skill: Brazilian music, samba, reggae and funk all have a place in their sound.     Northwestern Nevada roads, July 15-21

    I-580, south of Reno: Traffic lanes will be reduced on I-580 on Galena Creek Bridge south of Reno from Monday through Thursday as the Nevada Department of Transportation conducts routine bridge inspections. Lane closures will take place between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., with southbound lane closures scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, and northbound lane closures set for Wednesday and Thursday.

    U.S. 395, Gardnerville: NDOT is resurfacing U.S. 395 through downtown Gardnerville between Waterloo Lane and First Street. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in either direction; drivers should expect moderate delays. Work is expected to continue through September.

    Steamboat Parkway, south Reno: Crews will expand the stretch of Steamboat Parkway from four lanes to six between Marketplace Drive and Veterans Parkway through November.

    U.S. 395, North Valleys: Ramps to Stead Boulevard (exit 76) and the section of Stead Boulevard underneath U.S. 395 will be closed intermittently overnight through July 18 while NDOT conducts resurfacing work. Drivers on 395 can use exits at Lemmon Drive or North Red Rock Road as a detour, while drivers on Stead Boulevard will be detoured on Silver Lake Road or North Virginia Street.

    Northbound traffic will continue be reduced to two lanes on U.S. 395 through mid-2025 due to NDOT's work to widen U.S. 395 between North McCarran Boulevard and Golden Valley Road. The on-ramp at Panther Valley north of Reno will be closed through late 2024.

    U.S. 395 north of Topaz Lake: Single-lane closures will take place in one-mile sections from the state line to Ray May Way between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. on weekdays through August as NDOT repaves the roadway. Reduced speed limits will be in place. Drivers should expect travel delays of up to 30 minutes.
