A five-year-old child was rushed to hospital after he fell from a third-floor balcony in Massachusetts .

Police in Revere, Massachusetts, announced yesterday that a child had fallen from a balcony on the third floor of a six-family home on Shirley street. When they arrived at the scene around 2pm, the little boy was unconscious but breathing.

The boy was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital. The details surrounding the tragic incident remain unclear at this point but reports from Boston 25 News show that two balusters in the railing that encloses the porch were missing. The small gap this created may have been just big enough for the child to fall through.

Police have announced that the boy is currently in stable condition. Their investigation into the circumstances surrounding his fall is ongoing, but neighbors who spoke to reporters immediately after the incident said that they believe the boy was just playing when he fell. They added that local children often play on the balcony.

One neighbor, Oscar Alzate, who heard the noise and discovered the child on the ground after the fall, spoke to WCVB and said: “He looked very, very bad. Never in my life have I seen that.”
