RHEA COUNTY — Beginning June 23, The Herald-News will no longer produce a printed weekend edition and will be offering an exclusive Sunday digital edition.

“We will continue to produce a digital e-edition of the weekend paper, but it will only be available in digital form, with the e-edition accessible by 5 a.m. every Saturday morning,” The Herald-News Managing Editor Reed Johnson said. “That edition will be presented in full color throughout.”

The Herald-News will produce expanded Wednesday print and digital editions, with additional content appearing on Wednesday that would have appeared in the weekend print publication.

“All of your favorites sections of The Herald-News, such as recipes, comics and others will still be available in print, they will just appear in the Wednesday edition,” Johnson said.

These changes will not affect the timeliness or quality of coverage of local news, sports and community events in and around Rhea County.

“In fact, we expect to provide expanded coverage in some areas as we work to provide the best print experience possible in the Wednesday print publication,” Johnson said. “We will continue to provide a vibrant print and digital marketplace for our advertisers.”

The Herald-News has been Rhea County’s newspaper of record dating back to its inception in 1898.

“That’s a proud tradition we respect and honor. We are regularly recognized as an award-winning newspaper by our peers at the Tennessee Press Association, but what matters most is that you continue to rely on us as your primary local news source,” Johnson said. “We will remain dedicated to earning your support by providing the most comprehensive local coverage possible, whether you are a print or digital user. Our mission is to diligently cover the events and happenings that affect our community every day.”

Johnson said he encourages readers to take full advantage of the free app available on Apple and Android App stores, website, e-editions and the enhanced Wednesday print coverage in the years ahead.
