Tayte Schommer had one more opportunity to wear his yellow Warriors helmet on the football field.

The recent Rice Lake High School graduate played in Saturday's Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-Star game in Oshkosh to conclude his high school career on the gridiron.

Schommer got to not only represent his hometown but also raise funds for a good cause. The WFCA announced that coaches and players raised $345,000 for children in need.

"It was a huge honor to represent Rice Lake, and to help fundraise for Children’s Wisconsin Hospital," Schommer said.

Schommer suited up for the North team in the large school all-star game, playing offensive line. There were also 8-player and small school games.

While Schommer's North team was downed 48-14 in the large school game, it was the new relationships he formed, as well as putting on his helmet and pads in a game for the first time since Rice Lake's state championship win that made it well worth it.

"I enjoyed making a lot of new friends," he said. "Also I enjoyed just getting to play and practice football again."

It won't be much longer until Schommer is back on the field, this time at the college level. He begins fall camp Aug. 14 at Hamline University, where he will play on the defensive line for the Pipers.

"I’m excited to put on the pads again and start practices," Schommer said.
