Annette Addo-Yobo becomes the first immigrant-born Miss Texas

ODESSA, Texas – The Miss Texas Organization continues to make history with its titleholders.

Annette Addo-Yobo was crowned Miss Texas on Saturday, June 29th in the city of Richardson, Texas, making history as the first immigrant-born representative to hold the title. A U.S. Immigrant or foreign-born, is classified as anyone who was not a U.S. citizen at birth.

Though born in Ghana, Annette and her family would travel to the U.S. and Canada, making her Ghanian-Canadian-American.

“My parents had $50 and a suitcase when we picked up and moved,” said Addo-Yobo on the journey.

Annette represented the city of Southlake and previously held the title of Miss Dallas. She competed for only two years and took home the crown on her second attempt.

“When I saw Zozi, Cheslie and Nia win, girls that look like me, I knew it was my time to compete,” said Addo-Yobo on the importance of representation.

Annette will serve the state promoting her platform inspired by her brother, The Spark Project. The newly crowned titleholder will continue spreading autism awareness and advocate for those with autism to reach their full potential. Annette is also an MBA student at Lamar University.
