Cal Poly Humboldt Artist Wins 2024 California Duck Stamp Contest
A painting by Cynthia Fisher of Hamilton, Montana has been chosen as the winner of the 2024 California Duck Stamp Contest. “I learned to love waterfowl during my years in college at Cal Poly Humboldt,” said artist Fisher.” “I spent all my times studying ducks and other birds, doing taxidermy, and went on the first of many Duck hunts after that,” said artist Fisher. Judges first noted the position and orientation of the mallards in Fisher’s painting, describing the ducks in flight as an action shot. The painting reflected the background as Sutter Buttes, a small mountain village near Yuba City in Sutter County. Artist Fisher’s Blue Ribbon winner and three runners up will be on display at the Pacific Flyway Decoy Association Annual Wildlife Art Festival in Sacramento.

Travelers planning to use Interstate 15 near the Nevada/California state line, found themselves at a standstill as the major thoroughfare was closed in both directions south of the boundary, following an incident where a semi-truck hauling lithium-ion batteries caught fire. The shutdown extended from Afton Canyon to Basin roads after the San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the blaze on northbound I-15 at mile marker 113, between Barstow and Baker, News 3 LV reported.
