HOPE, Ark. – A man fleeing from Arkansas State Police on Interstate 30 was shot and injured Monday night.

ASP official said troopers were pursuing 43-year-old Joshua Harrison of Richmond, Indiana, Monday night just after 10 p.m. near the Hempstead/Nevada county line when Harrison began shooting at them.

Authorities said the troopers returned fire before one trooper used his patrol vehicle to force Harrison off the road. Troopers said Harrison was able to drive back onto I-30 and continue. Investigators said Harrison then crossed the median and traveled against eastbound traffic until he was hit by an eastbound tractor-trailer.

After the crash, Harrison was arrested by troopers and received medical attention at the scene before being taken to a local hospital. Officials said a female passenger was taken into custody and taken to the Hempstead County Detention Center.

Harrison was also booked into the Hempstead County Detention Center early Tuesday morning where he is being held without bail.

Investigators said a case file would be presented to the prosecuting attorney to determine if the use of deadly force was per Arkansas law. No possible charges against Harrison or the unnamed woman were listed in the release.

No troopers were injured in the Monday night incident, officials reported.
