Father’s Day, Juneteenth, and Pride Month – that’s a lot of special this week! Find activities to honor them all in “What’s Booming RVA: Celebrate Meaningful People.”

“The Best of Times: A Celebration of Richmond Triangle Players”

Through July 13 at Robert B. Moss Theatre, Richmond

The brand-new retrospective honors RTP’s vibrant production legacy, featuring performances that illuminate its most beloved productions from the past 30+ years, from “Kiss of the Spider Woman” to “Cabaret” to “La Cage aux Folles” to “Grey Gardens,” incorporating cherished songs, scenes and memories. The production features a cast of RTP veterans as well as special guest performers each week.

Amelia Lavender Festival

June 14 to 16 at Windsor Lavender Farm, Amelia

Surround yourself with the beauty and aromatherapy of lush fields of lavender, pick bundles to take home, and enjoy live music, food trucks, vendors, yoga, and more.

Juneteenth in Pocahontas Park

June 15, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Pocahontas State Park

Multiple programs all day long:

• Birding for Beginners, in celebration of Black Birders Week.
• Art in the Park: Celebrating Black Artists and Conservationists.
• The Forgotten Soldiers of Juneteenth: The 116th United States Colored Troops of Dutch Gap Canal, with ties to Galveston, Texas.
• Camping 101, a demonstration and celebration of Black heritage and freedom.
• Hike Through History at Group Camp 7, marking once-segregated parts of the park.

“No Nobler Effort”: USCT in the Opening Assaults Sunset Walking Tour

June 15, 6 p.m., meeting at the Petersburg National Battlefield Eastern Front Visitor Center parking lot, Petersburg

Learn about June 15, 1864, when General Edward Hinks led his United States Colored Troops (USCT) in an attack on Petersburg. For many of the men, it was their first battle, but they entered the fray with more to prove than their white comrades. Explore the history of the USCT, their role in the opening assaults, and the impact that day had on Black soldiers throughout the army. FREE.

RRRC Thanks Dad 5k

Virtual option, June 14 to 17. In-person race on June 16, 8 a.m., at Urban Farmhouse in The Millworks, Midlothian

The locally run race was designed as a Father’s Day run to celebrate the special relationship between fathers, grandfathers, and their sons/daughters and grandsons/granddaughters. Families encouraged! Awards for top individual running and family teams.
