A hot and muggy weekend

RICHMOND, Va. -- Tonight will be warm and muggy, with lows in the mid to upper 70s.

Sunday will be hot and muggy again, with afternoon highs in the mid to upper 90s, with a heat index up to 105. There will be some sun with variable cloudiness. A few thunderstorms will develop during the afternoon and become more numerous into the evening. There is a slight risk (level 2 out of 5) for severe weather, with the threats being strong, damaging wind gusts and some hail.

Behind the front, Monday will be a bit "cooler" and less humid with highs in the low to mid 80s. Lows Monday night will be in the upper 50s and low 60s. Tuesday will be mostly sunny with highs in the mid to upper 80s.

The hot and muggy weather will return for the middle and end of the week. Highs will be near 90 Wednesday, and then in the upper 90s to around 100 Thursday and Friday. The heat will linger into next weekend, with thunderstorm chances in the picture at least through Saturday.

In the tropics: Hurricane Beryl will be a major hurricane as it hits the Windward Islands The forecast track takes it into the Caribbean, with the storm near Jamaica by late Wednesday. We're watching two other areas, one in the eastern Atlantic and another over the Yucatan Peninsula moving into the Bay of Campeche. Both may develop over the next few days.
