    High-speed rail project could connect Richmond to Raleigh

    RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia and North Carolina are working on a project which could connect Richmond to one of North Carolina’s major metropolitan areas by high-speed rail.

    According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation , both states have been working on the necessary paperwork to begin the S-Line Raleigh to Richmond project, which “involves the development, implementation, and operation of passenger rail service” between the two cities.

    Richmond and Raleigh were the Southeastern United States’ busiest and fifth-busiest Amtrak stations in 2023 .

    This project is being done in collaboration with the Virginia Passenger Rail Authority. More information about the project can be found on the authority’s website .
