56-year-old man found lying dead in Richmond roadway with gunshot wound

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The man who was found lying dead with a gunshot wound in a Richmond roadway Sunday morning has been identified by police.

The man has been identified as 56-year-old George Phillips, Jr.

At 6:50 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, officers with the Richmond Police Department were called to the 1000 block of German School Road for the report of a person down.

When officers arrived, police said they found Phillips, Jr. lying in the roadway. He had an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said the Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
