RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for several Central Virginia areas on Thursday, with an excessive heat watch to be in effect on Friday.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the following Central Virginia areas from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1:
- Brunswick County
- Caroline County
- Charles City County
- Dinwiddie County
- Chesterfield County
- Colonial Heights
- Essex County
- Hanover County
- Henrico County
- City of Richmond
- King William County
- King and Queen County
- Greensville County
- James City County
- Lancaster County
- Middlesex County
- New Kent County
- Northumberland County
- Prince George County
- Richmond County
- Sussex County
An excessive heat watch will be in effect in the morning of Friday, Aug. 2 through the evening. According to the National Weather Service, dangerously hot conditions with heat index values at or above 110 degrees is possible on Friday.
8News Weather Specialist Tyler Hall advises residents in these areas to drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks in the shade or in air conditioning, as well as limiting time outdoors during the day.
