Fatal Crash on Highway 101 in Curry County
On Sunday, July 14, 2024, at 11:40 p.m., Oregon State Police responded to a single vehicle crash on Hwy 101, near milepost 298, in Curry County. The preliminary investigation indicated a southbound Ford F250, operated by James Franklin Mickelson (36) of Sixes, left the roadway for unknown reasons, traveled approximately 400 feet through a field, and struck a tree. The collision caused the vehicle to become engulfed in flames. The operator of the vehicle (Mickelson) and passengers, Joseph Frances Kurka (20) of Sixes and Dereck Eugene Stroop (35) of Port Orford, were all declared deceased at the scene. The highway was not impacted during the on-scene investigation. The cause of the crash is under investigation. OSP was assisted by the Port Orford Fire Department, Sixes Fire, Coos Forest Patrol, Coos Fire, the Curry County Sheriff's Office, and ODOT.

Albany woman killed in two-vehicle, head-on Linn County crash
CORVALLIS, Ore.—A two-vehicle crash on Highway 34 east of Corvallis killed one driver and seriously injured another on Monday morning, according to the Oregon State Police. OSP officials said they responded shortly before noon on July 15 to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 34 near milepost 4 just east of Corvallis. An eastbound Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Gemini Uvon Soules, 21, of Albany, crossed into the westbound lanes and struck a Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck head-on, state police said. Authorities said that the driver of the Dodge Ram was transported to an area hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

ROSEBURG POLICE JAIL WOMAN ON 20-COUNT WARRANT
Roseburg Police jailed a woman on a 20-count warrant on Monday. An RPD report said 6:40 p.m. officers contacted 22-year-old Amber Thompson in the 700 block of Southeast Stephens Street. Thompson’s warrant was for aggravated identity theft, 15 counts of identity theft, 3 counts of computer crime and for 2nd degree theft. She was detained on $50,000 bail.
LIGHTNING RECONNSAISSANCE AFTER TUESDAY LIGHTNING STORMS
The Douglas Forest Protective Association initiated aerial and ground lightning reconnaissance following predicted lighting storms late Tuesday afternoon. DFPA Public Information Officer Rachel Pope said at approximately 5:00 p.m. lightning storms swept across the Douglas District. Pope said strikes were recorded from Glendale to Elkton on the west side of the district and from Tiller to north of Glide on the east side.
