Afternoons staying very warm, hottest on Saturday
Good morning! Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are developing across portions of northwest Oregon & southwest Washington. As I write this discussion around 3:00 A.M., I’m watching two clusters of thunderstorms. One cluster is developing over the central Oregon Coast (basically right over Newport), and the other cluster is developing in central Oregon (near Madras). These showers and storms are linked to a shortwave trough that is moving over the region. This shortwave will continue to push northward this morning, and the action will shift focus into western / central Washington. Between mid to late morning, clouds will gradually clear. This should bring us another very warm afternoon, but not quite as warm as yesterday. Temperatures will max out in the upper 80s and low 90s along the I-5 corridor.

DFPA DEALS WITH TRESTLE FIRE
Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association and other agencies dealt with a fire approximately one mile north of the Myrtle Creek exit on Interstate 5 on Sunday. DFPA Public Information Officer Rachel Pope said just before 5:15 p.m. the Riddle Fire Department, Myrtle Creek Fire Department, and the Tri-City Fire Department, along with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police and Oregon Department of Transportation responded to a reported smoke column near mile marker 107 northbound on the freeway.
TRIPLE DIGITS, NEAR RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURE EXPECTED TUESDAY
Triple digit weather and a near record high temperature is expected for Roseburg on Tuesday. Forecasters at the National Weather Service told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that a high of 102 degrees is forecast. The record for July 16th is 103 degrees, set back in 1941. Temperatures should drop to the low to mid 90s for Wednesday through Sunday.
