RIDGELAND, Miss, ( WJTV ) – There is an interesting quilt show going on at The Waller Craft Center in Ridgeland.

The actual category that quilts fall under is fiber art.

“It is wonderful. We are so excited to have the folks here. They’re here for about two months. So if you can’t make it this week, you’ve got plenty of time,” said Betsy Ross, executive director of the The Craftsmen’s Guild of Mississippi.

Each of these quilts exhibits a lot of creativity. I imagine they are, like all art from poetry to painting to music to sculpture, a window into the soul of the creator in some way, an outlet for a thought or an emotion or a dream or an imagination to come into being and be shared.

Towns are commemorated, as well as schools and areas of the state and Mississippi’s musicians and writers. The artists chose these small quilts for several reasons.

Art is a representation of creation on a small scale. Small when compared to creation. It could be as big as Mount Rushmore, but not for these fiber artists who picked and chose their materials and brought them together just so in order to make them a representation. Not of what they are made of, but of what can be made with imagination, skill and patience.

There is no charge to visit The Waller Craft Center.
