Troy’s Motion Picture Institute among 17 schools nationwide to receive distinction award
A round of applause is in order for Troy’s Motion Picture Institute for gaining fresh national recognition as one of America’s elite career schools. The institute, now in its 25th year, was among 17 schools nationwide selected for a 2023-24 School of Distinction Award from the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges.
Police Beat: Clay Township
Clay Township police were dispatched to the 8600 block of Marsh Road on July 21 in response to a report of a single-vehicle crash, according to a police report. The caller reported his daughter was driving the vehicle, there were no injuries and he would have the vehicle removed the next day. Officers located a dark-colored sports utility vehicle that had left the roadway and came to rest in a front yard. There was heavy front-end damage and damage to the property and no one was around the vehicle. Due to the location of the vehicle, officers had it removed from the yard and impounded pending further investigation. Contact was made with the caller, who was told the vehicle was impounded and further investigation was required. The case was open and the investigation ongoing at the time of the report.

Linda Butera, 70, of Lake Orion and Hillman
Mrs. Linda Lou Butera, 70 of Lake Orion, Michigan and Hillman, Michigan took her final trip around the sun on July 31, 2024. She was born on March 4, 1954 in Pontiac, Michigan to the late Walter “Bayne” and Lula (Nelson) Schook. She married her husband, Mike Butera, in 1981 and together the couple celebrated 40+ years of marriage before her passing. After retirement, they spent summers at their home on Ess Lake. Linda was a member of the Orion Oxford Eagles. She was very sociable and enjoyed visiting with friends. She could often be found playing her poker and casino video games. She is and will be deeply missed.
National Night Out returns to Port Huron
The Port Huron Police Department is participating in tomorrow’s National Night Out. The annual community engagement campaign promotes relationships between residents and first responders with neighborhood block parties featuring food and games.
