Driver in deadly 2023 crash in Imlay City sentenced
LAPEER COUNTY, Mich. (WJRT) - A Washington Township man was sentenced earlier this week for a deadly crash in Imlay City that killed one person and injured several others. Court records show that 19-year-old Mark Wayne Goedge III was sentenced to 5-15 years in prison for reckless driving causing death. Goedge was also sentenced to two to five years for reckless driving causing serious impairment of a body function. That sentence will be served concurrently with his reckless driving causing death charge.

Chesterfield Township police celebrate promotions
Three members of the Chesterfield Township Police Department were recently promoted as a result of their hard work, dedication and exemplary service in the community. Nicholas Calandra was promoted from police officer to sergeant; Julian Lee was promoted from detective to sergeant; and Matthew McPhillips was promoted from sergeant to lieutenant. The trio was recognized at a July 23 township Board of Trustees meeting.
13th annual craft, vendor, car show to benefit Algonac-Clay Historical Society
The Algonac-Clay Historical Society’s annual craft, vendor and classic car show is set to take place Aug. 10 in Clay Township. This is the historical society’s 13th annual event hosted at Clay Township Park in August. For the past few years, the society has also hosted a car show and art exhibit at Algonac Riverfront Park in May. The May 2024 event was canceled because of wet grass in the park. The Clay Township event originally was just a craft and vendor show, but started including vintage cars in 2019.
Marine City Battle of the Bands to return
The Marine City Lions Club will present the fourth annual Battle of Bands event on Aug. 16 and 17. “Get ready for another two-night rematch event,” Marine City Mayor and Lions Club member Jennifer Vandenbossche said. “Join us by land or sea in Marine City’s Nautical Mile Park.”
Sculpting contest celebrates a decade of sand art
This weekend, the Fort Gratiot Light Station County Park will welcome in sand sculptors from around the world for the 10th Blue Water Sand Fest. The festival – which is a partnership between the Friends of the Fort Gratiot Light Station, Port Huron Museum, and The Sand Lovers competitive sculpting organization – raises funds for the historic preservation of the light station. Teen driver in Imlay City crash that killed Livonia man sentenced
IMLAY CITY, MI -- A teenage driver has been sentenced for his role in a fatal crash that also injured six others in Imlay City in early 2023. Mark Wayne Goedge III, who pleaded no contest to reckless driving and reckless driving causing serious injury charges, was sentenced to five to 15 years on the reckless driving charge and two to five years on the second count -- sentences that will be served concurrently, according to Imlay City Police Department officials.
