Street Profits defeat A-Town Down Under in a tag team #1 qualifier match. Good to see the Profits take a step toward gold once again.
Jade Cargill effectively squashed Alba Fyre. I get that Cargill is the more physically imposing Superstar, but Fyre is one half of the tag champs, so I would have liked more protection (or the interference before the pin).
Santos Escobar defeats Andrade. Escobar benefited from some outside interference from Carmelo Hayes.
DIY took care of Pretty Deadly to advance in the tag team #1 contender efforts.
Best Match Of The Night:
Andrade and Santos Escobar, for sure. I liked the tag matches too, and I think Profits versus DIY should be good. But Andrade and Escobar was top notch. Only spoiler was the outside interference, though that does protect Andrade somewhat. Still, a really good television match.
Worst Match Of The Night:
Cargill and Fyre. Under three minutes for that was sad. I don’t mind Cargill getting squashes, it builds her up. But, no need to squash half of the women’s tag champions.
Noteworthy Moments:
Nice tribute for Kevin Sullivan, who passed away this week. He’s one of those figures in professional wrestling that, especially once WCW was bought by Vince McMahon , got overlooked. Maybe not overlooked. But I feel like he didn’t always get the credit that was due to him. Rest in peace Kevin.
Cody had an interesting idea for his next challenger: Kevin Owens. I don’t hate it. Plus, when Owens said no thanks, how Rhodes and Nick Aldis got him to take it was enjoyable.
We have a Giovanni Vinci sighting, sort of. Vinci got a vignette, indicating he’s coming to the blue brand. He wasn’t one of the guys coming from RAW was he?
Holy S#$% Moments:
The Roman Reigns return to SmackDown was impressive, with a caveat. Or two. We got physical fast, with Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa serving as the jobbers to take the abuse from Reigns. Solo took some shots, but not many. Makes sense to keep them apart before the payoff, whenever that will be.

What I wasn’t fond of? For one, sometime soon the numbers have to overwhelm Reigns. It’s the right thing to do, else the Bloodline 2.0 will become like the Nexxus when they lost instead of going over. Plus, if Reigns does not get beaten down, how else do we bring back Jimmy and Jey ? And when does Heyman get back?
For now, with Jacob Fatu banged up , maybe things are simmering. Plus, worth noting. RAW got to borrow A-Town Down Under, but we did not see who RAW was sending to SmackDown yet, did we?
Lowlights:
Reigns is back, but no backup yet. I expect eventually we will have an advertisement for “Roman Reigns Speaks”, and that will be when I suspect we will get Heyman back. I look forward to that, I think.
Highlights:
The Rhodes opening segment was good, especially since I bet at least some expected Reigns out of the gate. Sure, he’s main event level, but he was also THE draw tonight. Nice way to start and deliver something good.
The tag team qualifiers were good. Our TV main event match was better. The Reigns-Solo closing segment was superb. And was it just me, or when Tama Tonga was handing Solo the ceremonial necklace, was there a hesitation?
Well, that was a strong show. Maybe not the strongest, but it hit most all of the notes it had to. We know Solo and Roman will go, but we don’t know when yet. It’s just warming up, and that’s fine. Cody and Kevin should be fun in Berlin, and we’ve got plenty more in motion.
