City of Laredo Mayor reacts to Biden’s decision not to seek reelection
LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) - President Joe Biden’s decision to drop out of the 2024 race has got many lawmakers and leaders talking including Laredo Mayor Dr. Victor Trevino. In a statement, Mayor Dr. Trevino said, “From my meetings with President Biden, I know that his decision to step down was not an easy one, and only reinforces my belief that his duty to his country and lifelong public service comes first. I know Laredoans appreciate him for his public service and his historic approval of the World Trade Bridge expansion.”
Laredo, East LA and Hialeah, among the Latino-heavy cities with the highest poverty rates in the U.S.
A new study of the ten census-designated cities with 100,000 or more residents and high Latino populations showed their poverty rates are 50% higher than the national average. The ten communities, which include Laredo, Texas; East LA and Hialeah, Florida had an average poverty rate of 18.7%, considerably higher than the national poverty rate of 12.5% and the overall Latino poverty rate of 17.2%, the report by Axios shows.
